What is FireWire RAID?
FireWire RAID is a collection of drives that interface to the computer via a
FireWire 1394 port. Together the drives act as a single storage system to
the computer, providing an inexpensive solution to the performance needs of
today's high-speed systems or reliability by automatically backing up data to a
second drive.
FireWire RAID is becoming increasingly popular for Video, Audio and Graphic
workstations; Multimedia and Internet File Servers and single-user computer
applications needing the extra performance and data reliability that RAID
provides.
What type of RAID is right for you?
- Level 0, STRIPING (best for video capturing)
Terrific for use when drive speed is the primary objective, Level 0 RAID uses
drives in parallel and splits data across the drives allowing the fastest data
transfer.
- Level 1, MIRRORING (automatically backs up data to
another drive)
Providing absolute drive redundancy, Level 1 performs all data writes to two
drives, making one drive a "mirror" of the other, enabling real-time
data recovery should a hard drive fail.
